The Charles Paddock Zoo is excited to announce the debut of their new tiger, Menderu, on Saturday August 15th and Sunday August 16th.

Menderu is a Malayan Tiger, born on April 29, 2008 at the San Diego Zoo. Although he is not fully developed, he will continue to grow into his adult size of approximately 250 pounds.

Malayan Tigers are part of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) Species Survival Plan. This program strives to manage and conserve a select and typically threatened or endangered species population with the required cooperation of AZA-accredited institutions. SSP Programs develop a Master Plan that identifies population management goals and recommendations to ensure the sustainability of a healthy, genetically diverse, and demographically varied population.

The weekend festivities to welcome Menderu to the Charles Paddock Zoo include children friendly games, temporary tattoos for 25 cents, a chance to win your very own Menderu, and the opportunity to enjoy a BBQ lunch for $5. You will also enjoy special “Keeper Talks” about Menderu and learn more about Malayan Tigers at our Information Table.

The Charles Paddock Zoo is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
