Hind Foundation donates for zoo X-ray machine
(Atascadero CA) Animals at the Charles Paddock Zoo in Atascadero will receive state-of-the-art diagnostic care thanks to a sizable donation from the Hind Foundation. Greg Hind and his wife, Jane, were on hand at the Atascadero April 14th to present a check for $37,500 to cover the cost of a digital X-ray machine. Ken Brokamp, Chief Executive Officer of the Central Coast Zoo Society, lauded the Hinds for their generosity and community support.
“I was literally filling out the grant application on-line when the phone rang and it was Greg, wanting to know more about the project,” said Brokamp. “After a short meeting he said ‘alright, you’ve got the money’.” Brokamp said Hind likes to support causes locally and see tangible results from his Foundation’s contributions.
The tangible result for the Charles Paddock Zoo will be a state-of-the-art diagnostic tool for zoo veterinarians. The machine will fit right in with other programs designed to provide excellent quality care for zoo animals. The Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) recently accredited the Charles Paddock Zoo. The accreditation makes the facility “one of the best in the world” according to a spokesperson for the AZA. The Charles Paddock Zoo in Atascadero is the only accredited zoo between Santa Barbara and San Jose.
The Charles Paddock Zoo is located at the Atascadero Lake Pavilion on Highway 41 about a mile west of the intersection with Highway 101.
