Construction

"Pardon Us While We Move Into Something More Comfortable"

The Construction has started on the new zoo restrooms and Gift shop/Ticket Booth complex.  These long awaited projects will make the zoos ability to provide the highest level of customer service  possible.  The restroom part of the project is already well underway and the demolition of the old gift shop will start soon.  The zoo will of course be open for visitors during the construction.

To facilitate visitors and animal care several of our animals have or will be relocated to other parts of the zoo.  The Geoffrey's marmosets, Prehensile tailed porcupines, Titi monkeys and Sloth have all moved to the Hoag pavilion.  The Channel Island fox has moved to our education department where he is beginning training  to become part of our outreach program.

The zoo staff is assembling an aviary at the old bear exhibit that will allow us to put birds on display while the walk through aviary is undergoing renovation.

All this work doesn't stop us from moving forward with our collection plan.  New Indian Muntjac deer are in quarantine and will go on display in the next few weeks.

The city of Atascadero's streets, wastewater, parks, and building maintenance divisions pitched in to help the zoo out with some of our projects.  Make sure you check out the new fencing, roofs and plantings that were installed as well as the new paint on several of our exhibits.

So you can see that there is a "LOT" going on at the zoo so come by for a visit soon!
