The Central Coast Zoo Society is holding a Youth Art Contest for young people of the Central Coast. This contest began in the Spring of 2008. The deadline for art entries was September 4, 2008. Judging took place the following day. 
 
Winners will be spotlighted at the Media Day event, to take place on Saturday, September 20, 2008 from 10:00am - 12:00pm. Winning art will be displayed in the Tiger Garden of the Charles Paddock Zoo. Winners will be given scholarship money and an honorary family membership to the Zoo. After September 20th, winning art will be displayed at various locations throughout San Luis Obispo County.
 
Bidding on the art will available online from September 20th until the Winter Wonderland Event in Atascadero. Winning bidders will be announce at that time.
 
There are four categories:
• Preschool through 1st grade. Prizes for 1st, 2nd & 3rd places:
$100, $75 & $50 gift cards
• 2nd grade through 5th grade. Prizes for 1st, 2nd & 3rd places:
$100, $75 & $50 gift cards
• 6th grade through 11th grade. Prizes for 1st, 2nd & 3rd places:
$300, $200 & $100 gift cards
• 12th grade through college. Prizes for 1st, 2nd & 3rd places:
$500, $400 & $300 scholarships

The rules are simple!
The art must focus on wildlife and can be any medium (photo, sculpture, painting, drawing, etc). The art must be created by the student without any direct application assistance by anyone else. (If casting or kiln firing is required, student may use adult assistance for that activity.) All entries will become the property of the Zoo Society. A parent or guardian release must be signed when the art is submitted. Judging will occur during the summer, and awards will be presented at the Central Coast Zoo Society’s Media Day, September 20, 2008. The youth art will be auctioned off to benefit the renovation of the Charles Paddock Zoo. For more information, call (805) 470-3182.
