Gala Event benefiting the "New Zoo."
 
Mark your calendar! On Saturday, September 20, 2008, a new Gala event comes to the Central Coast at the Charles Paddock Zoo. This very special day will include two events; a daytime event within the Charles Paddock Zoo for families from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, and then an adult gala spectacular in the Lake Park Pavilion from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm. Guests at the daytime event will enjoy hors d’oeuvres stations from various regions of the globe, view wildlife art, learn about the “New Zoo” plan, and much, much more. The adult evening event will feature a unique dinner and include a silent and live auction plus entertainment. It’s all happening at the Zoo! The Gala Event is a roll-out and fundraiser for the “New Zoo” Master Plan. Sponsorships are available. More information to come...

Youth Art Contest

The Central Coast Zoo Society is holding an art contest for young people of the central coast. The contest will be held in the Spring of 2008 with all entries due by June 13, 2008.

There are five categories:
• Preschool through 1st grade. Prizes for 1st, 2nd & 3rd places:
$100, $75 & $50 gift cards
• 2nd grade through 5th grade. Prizes for 1st, 2nd & 3rd places:
$100, $75 & $50 gift cards
• 6th grade through 11th grade. Prizes for 1st, 2nd & 3rd places:
$300, $200 & $100 gift cards
• 12th grade. Prizes for 1st, 2nd & 3rd places:
$500, $400 & $300 scholarships
• College. Prizes for 1st, 2nd & 3rd places:
$500, $400, & $300 scholarships

The rules are simple!
The art must focus on wildlife and can be any medium (photo, sculpture, painting, drawing, etc). The art must be created by the student without any direct application assistance by anyone else. (If casting or kiln firing is required, student may use adult assistance for that activity.) All entries will become the property of the Zoo Society. A parent or guardian release must be signed when the art is submitted. Judging will occur during the summer, and awards will be presented at the Central Coast Zoo Society’s Fall Gala, September 20, 2008. The youth art and professional art, along with many other items of interest, will be auctioned off to benefit the renovation of the Charles Paddock Zoo.
