Update from Alan Baker, Zoo Director

I would like to report to you some news about the Charles Paddock Zoo and the many exciting things coming up soon.

· Zoo Education programs will continue as they always have in the past, including classes, birthday parties, camps, etc. While there has been some miscommunication regarding these programs and a re-organization is underway , there are no plans to discontinue Zoo Education programs, as they are integral to the Charles Paddock Zoo’s mission.

· Work is being completed on the new Red River hog exhibit. These unique “punk rock pigs” will be on display soon. Be sure to visit this fall and check them out!

· The Aviary has some new birds. Come by and see if you can locate our newest feathered friends!

· The Zoo continues to work on the AZA accreditation process. Every five years the Zoo is reviewed to ensure that it meets industry standards. Much work goes into the process, but ultimately, the accreditation process results in a better Zoo for the animals and visitors alike.

· Planning is moving ahead quickly on new Zoo restrooms. Additional restrooms are much needed, and the architect is developing plans now. We hope to bid the project this fall. Also, planning is underway for a new Zoo entrance, admissions, gift shop and education classroom/meeting rooms. These plans should be ready by the end of the year.

· The Central Coast Zoo Society has several fundraising initiatives planned. Keep your eye out for the Society newsletter to stay current with these events that support the Zoo.

Please contact the Zoo if you should have any questions or need further information.

See you in the Zoo!
